Pancake Day

This week RC have been thinking about Pancake Day. We have been talking about why we have pancakes and why we give things up for Lent as part of our R.E. this term. We read the book about Mr Wolf's Pancakes and this made us feel very hungry especially since the pancakes looked delicious. So we decided we would like to make some pancakes. On Thursday Mrs Mahmood help us make pancakes. We put some flour in a bowl and added some eggs, milk and a pinch of salt. We then stirred the mixture until there were no lumps. Next we put some butter in a frying pan and turned the cooker hob on. When the fat was very hot - we had to be very careful!!! we added some pancake mixture. Once the pancakes were cooked we put some strawberry jam inside them and ate them. Overall RC liked pancakes however a few were not so sure.

RC's Winnie the Witch Story

During this past week RC have been writing a story about Winnie the Witch. On Monday they brainstormed all their ideas and then on Tuesday they wrote the beginning of the story. On Wednesday they wrote the middle with a problem and on Thursday they wrote the ending. Here is our story.

Winnie and the Treasure Map

One day Winnie was cleaning out a cupboard under the stairs when she found a strange looking box. She felt a bit scared and nervous. She decided to open the box. Winnie opened it very slowly and carefully.

Winnie was very excited when she found a treasure map. On the treasure map was large cross showing where the treasure would be and at the top of the map it said 'Glade Zoo'. Winnie phoned her friend, a spaceman called Edward and asked him to go with her to the zoo to find the treasure.

So Winnie put on her hat, scarf and coat and she jumped into her red sports car. She remembered to pick up her wand and the treasure map and off she set to go to the zoo. Edward was waiting for her at the enterance to the zoo.

They went inside the zoo and Winnie showed Edward the map and off they set to look for the treasure. As they were running down a path some bandits jumped out and captured Winnie and Edward. They took them to a large gloomy cave at the back of the zoo where a big brown bear used to live.

When the bandits went off to a cafe' for cakes for tea, to celebrate catching somebody, Winnie remembered that she had her magic wand hidden in her pocket. She took it out and started to wave it as she said 'ABRACADABRA' eighteen times.

The magic started to work. First the bandits found themselves flying through the air and landing in the darkest, scariest dungeon in the world. Next Winnie and Edward found themselves in the hippo's den right next to the 'X' marked on the map and with a spade. Edward started to dig a hole and soon he found an old treasure chest. Winnie carfully lifted the lid and opened the box. It was full of gleaming gold coins and sparkling jewels.

They took the treasure chest back to Winnie's house. There Winnie gave Edward half of the treasure for helping her. She put the rest of the jewels and coins back in the chest and carefully put the chest back in the cupboard under the stairs. Finally Wilbur and Winnie had their dinner. The End.

This week has been really exciting in RC and RM. We have been listening to stories about 'Winnie the Witch' and on Friday we either dressed up in a witches oufit or a red outfit to support'PAWS'.

Winnie also has a cat called Wilbur and some children came as cats.

Last week RC had a great time in the snow in the outdoor area. They tried to make a snowman but found that the snow was too fine and wouldn't stick together. Here is their attempt.

Some of the children noticed that the snow was beginning to melt and when they touched it they found that it was freezing cold. Not what they expected!!

Fun in the snow!

We had some fun in the snow and then we wrote some sentences about all the things we had been up to on our two days off school. The children are getting really good at using their sounds to help them to spell words. They also remembered to use a capital letter, finger spaces and full stop in their sentence.
